When do you pick up my recycling?A: For homes in the Austin area we’ll come by every other Saturday to get your recyclable materials. Please check out the pick up dates on the right. If you are a business in Austin, we’ll come by when and as often as you need us. Once a month, every other week, or every week. Where do you take the stuff?A: Most of the recyclable material will go to the transfer stations in Wimberley, Blanco or to Ecology Action in Austin. Metal cans are sold to a metal recycler in Austin. Metal, glass, plastic and paper are recycled to help build roads and other city infrastructure, or come back as building materials, containers or paper goods again. How much does it cost?A: the cost is $15 per month for your home pick up service. We offer businesses a flat rate of $40 per pick up.Do I have to separate my recycling?A: NO! We’ll do that for you. If possible, it does help if you can keep your paper separate from everything else. The reason is that is paper gets dirty, wet, oily or anything, it is very hard to recycle. For example, that is why we can not recycle pizza boxes (but they make great kindling for campfires or BBQs!) If you already have a good system for separating, we are happy to pick up pre-sorted items. What do I put my recyclable items in?A: Please just put everything in any ol’ box or container. We can also provide you with a bin.Do I need to rinse my recyclable containers before you pick them up?A: yes, please give everything a rinse before we pick it up. For example, it would be difficult to recycle a peanut butter container if there was still a lot of delicious peanut butter in it.What other services do you provide?A: We’re available to provide recycling containers and pick up for any events and weddings. You would be amazed how much trash is produced at an event in such a short time and most of it is recyclable! We've worked with multi-day bike rides with thousands of riders and one-day festivals. With weddings we can pick up flowers as well and donate them to the local hospice or hospital. We can’t tell you how excited people get when they see loads of beautiful flowers coming through the door. Donating the flowers is called the “double happiness service.” It’s much better than throwing them away. |
